IT for the job site and the office

IT for contractors and trade businesses

In construction and the trades, work happens on the job site, not at a desk. Your IT has to work where your crews are, and it should not cost the owner every evening. We take over IT support at a flat monthly fee per user.

The situation

The workplace is mobile.

Measurements, photos, daily logs, time sheets and change orders are created in the field. If that only works at a desk, it gets entered at night or not at all. Field crews need phones and tablets that are set up, protected and replaced quickly when one breaks.

Job sites are not always online.

A new site may have weak cell coverage for weeks. Apps have to sync when the connection comes back, and a site trailer may need its own hotspot or temporary network. Plans and documents should be available offline on the devices that need them.

Your software decides what works.

Estimating, scheduling and project management run in tools such as Procore or Buildertrend, and accounting often in QuickBooks. Some of it is in the cloud and some still on a server in the office. Logins, permissions and backups have to cover all of it.

Nobody does IT full time.

In a company with 30 people the owner or the office manager handles IT on the side. With crews, apprentices and subcontractors coming and going, an account or password stays open every time there is no fixed process.

  • Microsoft 365 as the workplace, connected to your project, estimating and accounting software
  • Device management with Intune and Autopilot: a new laptop sets itself up without anyone preparing it
  • Phones and tablets for field crews, managed centrally and wiped remotely if one is lost
  • Connectivity for job sites and site trailers, planned before the first day on site
  • Onboarding and offboarding as a fixed process, including access to project software and shared drives
  • Multi-factor authentication and conditional access without exceptions, including for personal phones
  • License overview: which software you pay for and which is actually used
  • Merging several companies or locations onto one infrastructure
  • If you work on Department of Defense projects: the technical controls behind CMMC self-assessments

What we do not do: configure the business logic in your estimating or project software, or give legal advice on contract requirements. We connect the software to your accounts and devices and coordinate with the vendors.

Case study

Electrical contractor, two companies · 30 users

Both companies in Germany were merged onto a shared domain and infrastructure. Microsoft 365 in the cloud is connected to the ERP, file server and backup on site. Conditional access and multi-factor authentication apply everywhere, and all devices are managed through Intune with Autopilot.

Result: New employees are ready to work in less than a day instead of three to four days. A new device is ready in two hours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to switch our construction software?

No. We work with the software you already use, such as Procore, Buildertrend or QuickBooks, and connect it to your user accounts and devices. If a tool no longer fits, we tell you and help you compare options, but the decision stays with you.

Does this work on job sites without internet?

Mostly yes. Most field apps store data on the device and sync when the connection returns. We set up devices so plans and documents are available offline, and we plan hotspots or temporary networks for site trailers when a site has poor coverage.

What if a phone or tablet gets lost on site?

We lock and wipe it remotely, because all field devices are managed centrally. The replacement device sets itself up with the right apps and settings, so the crew is back to work quickly.

Do we need CMMC?

Only if you work on Department of Defense contracts or subcontracts that involve Federal Contract Information or Controlled Unclassified Information. Those contracts can require a CMMC self-assessment. If you only build for private or other public clients, CMMC does not apply to you. We help you check your contracts with your counsel and implement the technical controls if needed.

We have only 15 people. Are we too small?

No. Ongoing managed IT starts at 5 users. Smaller companies benefit the most, because nobody in the company has time to handle IT on the side.

What does managed IT cost for a contractor?

Our plans cost $99, $149 or $219 per user per month. Many contractors start with Standard at $149, which includes device management and multi-factor authentication. Onboarding costs $2,500 one time for up to 25 users. Licenses such as Microsoft 365 are billed at list price without markup, and hardware is quoted at a fixed price in advance.

What happens if nothing works in the morning?

Call us. Support is available Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm in your time zone, and 24/7 in the Complete plan. In Standard and Complete we respond within 2 hours when an outage stops your business, and within 4 hours when a single workstation is down. Most problems are solved remotely, and we send a technician on site when needed.
